ANDP Veterans Program:
Veteran turns to a new chapter, but always remembers to give back
Eddie is a proud native Atlantan. He was born at Grady Hospital, attended Grady High School and is a life-long fan of the Atlanta Falcons. He has spent most of his life in DeKalb County. Eddie’s connection to the county just got deeper with the purchase of his Lithonia home through ANDP’s Veterans Program.
With lead support from The Home Depot, ANDP’s Veterans Program provides affordable home purchase options for qualifying Veterans, Active Duty Military, Reserve and Guard members as well as Gold Star families. The program provides newly renovated homes at affordable prices, paired with homebuyer assistance of up to $7,500.
As a first-time homeowner, Eddie pays meticulous attention to his new home. He likes spending his afternoons with his fiancé Alyssa manicuring the lawn, and caring for his two rescue dogs Muffin and Peanut. He is grateful for the help provided by ANDP and The Home Depot.
“It’s a great program. Not only was ANDP able to help me with my closing costs, my monthly mortgage payment is $200 less than I was previously paying for rent,” Eddie said.
While moving forward in his own life, Eddie never forgets to give back to those in need – especially veterans. Eddie and his extended family operate a group home for veterans who are overcoming substance abuse.
“We named our organization ‘People Valuing Kindness’ because it speaks to the need to help provide veterans with an opportunity to improve their circumstances. Those who have served their country have often found the readjustment to civilian life difficult. We’re trying to do our part to make life a little better for those who have struggled with this readjustment.”
Welcome home, Eddie! Thank you for your service and your continued commitment to serving others.
Eddie’s home is one of nearly 200 vacant, foreclosure-impacted homes ANDP has renovated and repopulated in DeKalb County – and one of more than 500 renovated homes in the metro region.
Since creating the Veterans program in 2013, ANDP has supported the affordable housing needs of 122 veterans and active duty military personnel.
ANDP thanks its many supporters who help us create housing opportunities that are affordable for our nation’s veterans. We are grateful to NeighborWorks America and especially The Home Depot Foundation for their lead support of the ANDP Veterans Program.
