Nkosi accepts position to help rebuild NOLA

ANDP recently bid farewell to M. von Nkosi as he left his post as director of the Mixed Income Communities Initiative (MICI) and director of the organization’s Department of Research, Policy & Information. Nkosi has accepted a sponsored position with New Orleans' Office of Planning and Development and will work to ensure that the rebuilding efforts in New Orleans are fair and equitable to people of all income levels.

The position Nkosi will fill as a one-year "loaned executive" is the result of a partnership between PolicyLink, a national public policy, planning and housing advocacy nonprofit, and the Louisiana Disaster Recovery Foundation.

According to officials at PolicyLink, von will “help shape the city’s emerging policies on Affordable Housing, Environmental Justice, Economic Development and Workforce Development, and be a liaison between New Orleans’ Office of Planning and Development and other agencies. He will develop join policies and practices and help ground the city’s overall rebuilding strategy in an ‘equitable development’ philosophy.”

For nearly ten years, Nkosi has worked diligently to build awareness of equitable and mixed income development and to move leaders from both the private and public sectors from dialogue to action.

Nkosi managed the creation of the 2004 report Making the Case for Mixed Income and Mixed Use Communities. Making the Case soon became one of the leading resources for information on the value of mixed income and mixed use development. One of the last projects overseen by Nkosi was the Regional Housing Data Center, an online source of housing information, which he helped to see into its final development stages.

ANDP would like to thank M. von Nkosi for his dedication to the mission of ANDP and for helping to increase awareness of Atlanta’s affordable housing concerns. We wish him success in the challenging position he has accepted.
