ANDP FOUNDER AND VISIONARY
In 1991, Hattie lead the creation of ANDP which was the result of
the merger of the Metropolitan Atlanta Chamber of Commerce’s Housing
Resource Center and the Atlanta Economic Development Corporation’s
Neighborhood Development Department. From day one, the mission was
to address the diminishing supply of affordable housing in the
Metropolitan Atlanta region as well as to help reclaim declining
neighborhoods.
Fifteen years later, Hattie leaves the organization with an
impressive array of results. Under her leadership, ANDP has built,
invested in or otherwise supported the creation of nearly 8,000
units of affordable housing. The organization has trained hundreds
of concerned citizens to be more involved in their communities.
Hattie was also able to secure millions of dollars from the private
sector, public sector and the philanthropic community to address
Atlanta's most pressing issues related to affordable housing and
community development. But her lasting legacy may very well be
the heightened dialogue that the region is currently engaging on
connected topics of affordable housing, transportation, wages and
equity.
In addition to her work at ANDP, Hattie took her message of equitable
housing development to regional, state and national audiences.
Always willing to demonstrate and explain the connectedness between
society's most troubling ills, Hattie frequently spoke around the
country on topics of community development, race relations,
economic development, regional equity and public policy. She served on
the Mayor's Affordable Workforce Housing Task Force; Georgia Chamber
of Commerce Board of Directors; Federal Reserve’s Consumer Advisory
Council; Central Atlanta Progress Executive Committee; Atlanta
Streetcar Board of Directors; Washington Mutual Advisory Council;
Atlanta Regional Health Forum Board; and the local affiliate of
International Women's Forum.
During her tenure with
ANDP, Hattie received numerous
honors and awards including: 2005 Spelman College Local Community
Service Award; Georgia Trend’s “2004 Notable Georgians”; 2003 Inductee
into the Atlanta Business League’s Women Hall of Fame; 2001 Honoree of
Women Looking Ahead “100s List of Georgia's Most Powerful and
Influential Women;” the Atlanta Tribune's 2001 “Sisters to Watch”
recognition; Atlanta Business League's recognition for being among the
100 Most Influential Black Women for the past five years; Business to
Business magazine's “ 99” Women in Business Award; the Federal Home
Bank Partnership Excellence Award; the Empire Realtors Distinguished
Services Award; The Georgia Black Caucus Grace Towns Hamilton
Leadership Award; and the Atlanta Regional Commission's Golden Glasses
Award.
Hattie will remain on
the ANDP staff until December 31, 2006 to support the transition to
newly selected President & CEO John O'Callaghan.
